Willie Miller, footballer was born
2nd May 1955 in Glasgow
and was in the same class as the webmaister's sister at Dalmarnock Primary
& John Street Secondary Schools.. Willie's younger brother and sister also attended
those schools.
He played centre
forward for the school teams gaining
Scottish caps at schoolboy level.
He played for Eastercraigs boys club
before joining Aberdeen Football Club
as a sixteen year old in 1971. Signed as a striker but he developed into a
world class sweeper.
Appointed club captain in 1975, a strong, hard tackling defender who led
from the back. In some quarters he was recognised as the best penalty box
defender in the world. With Aberdeen he was honoured by his country and
gained 65 Scottish caps. He has an appearance record of 556
league games, a feat that will probably never be surpassed.

Willie retired due to injury in 1990 and was appointed manager of Aberdeen
FC from 1992-1995 and worked in the Scottish media as well as having
business interests in Aberdeen and Aberdeen FC
He will be remembered for his role as Aberdeen's captain courageous under
the managership of Alex Ferguson and this Bridgeton
boy will go down in history as one of the greatest players to play
for Aberdeen FC.

mentioned Willie
was in the same class as my sister, Linda McArthur in the year below me at
John Street School. During that time we had a fantastic
football team with Willie playing centre forward terrorising the opposition.
I think the Dalmarnock School team was run by teacher Dan Wright at that time and our school
was blessed with some wonderful players. The teacher at John St school was
MrMcLachlan ( the boone)"
