Factory is shown in foreground with allotment gardens to right. Green’s
Strathclyde “The Strathies” picture house is the white building in the
background. (William's brother John Neilly was an Upholsterer and he used
to collect hair from the Hair Factory so that he could use it in foot stools
he made) |

Photo taken from 17 Woddrop St looking towards Birkwood St. - 1960
a view from number 17
Woddrop Street looking south towards Dalmarnock Bridge in 1960. The
factories in the background are located on the Rutherglen side of the River
Clyde in Downiebrae Road. (William Neilly's Da worked as a Bolt Forger in
the Rivet, Nut & Bolt Co. in Downiebrae Road and each year they attended his
work’s Christmas party). An electric generating sub-station is located
opposite the red sandstone tenements at the top of the street and extends
from the prefabs to the end of Woddrop Street which opens onto the River
Clyde at Dalmarnock Bridge. Birkwood Street is on the right, past the Ford
Anglia motor car and opposite the flat-topped lorry which is parked outside
the Fitzsimmon family’s prefab.
The prefabs continued around into Dunclutha Street,
on the left, where a disabled person’s blue coloured, three-wheeled, car is
parked. |

“new” tenements forming the block with Woddrop Street are Allan Street
